Hearing Aid Repair in Stuart, FL
Need to Fix Your Hearing Aids?
If your hearing aid doesn’t sound quite the way it used to, there may be an internal issue with the device. Independence Hearing can repair most hearing aid types in-office, or send them out for repair to the manufacturer when needed. Our doctoral-level audiologists, Kirsten Atwood, Au.D., CCC-A, Brenda Lasky, Au.D., and Norma Rivera Guttman, Au.D., will help you figure out exactly what’s going on and the best way to fix it.
Common Signs Your Hearing Aid Needs Repair
- No sound at all, even with a fresh battery
- Sound that’s weak, distorted, or cutting in and out
- Persistent feedback or whistling that doesn’t stop when you reinsert the device
- Visible damage, cracks, or moisture exposure
- A hearing aid that used to fit and sound fine but suddenly doesn’t
If any of this sounds familiar, bring your hearing aids in and we’ll take a look.
A Few Things to Try First
Before scheduling a repair, it’s worth checking a couple of simple things:
- Try a fresh battery – a dying battery is one of the most common reasons a hearing aid stops working
- Check for visible wax or debris blocking the microphone or speaker
- Make sure the tubing or dome isn’t twisted, cracked, or clogged
If none of that solves it, give us a call. There’s likely something going on that needs a closer look.
Caring for Your Hearing Aid
You should clean the wax off your hearing aids after each use with a clean tissue or cloth to decrease build-up and maintain performance. Regular cleaning is one of the simplest ways to prevent a repair visit in the first place.
Getting a Hearing Aid Adjustment
Not every issue is actually a repair. Excessive feedback or whistling may indicate a problem with the fit, or that a new earmold is needed, rather than a broken or malfunctioning device.
As your hearing changes over time, your hearing aids may also need to be reprogrammed to match. Most adjustments can be made quickly during an office visit, though a new earmold typically takes one to two weeks to come back.
In-Office Repairs vs. Manufacturer Repairs
Many common issues, like fit adjustments, minor cleaning, and reprogramming, can be handled right here in our office, often the same day. If your hearing aid needs a more involved repair, we’ll send it out to the manufacturer and provide you with a loaner device in the meantime, so you’re not without hearing support while it’s being fixed. Turnaround time depends on the manufacturer and the specific repair needed, and we’ll keep you updated throughout.
Should I Repair or Replace My Hearing Aid?
If your hearing aids are still within warranty, or the issue is relatively minor, repair is usually the more affordable option. If they’re older, out of warranty, or you’ve had repeat issues, it may be worth discussing whether replacement makes more sense in the long run, particularly if newer technology could also improve how you hear day to day. Ask us about your specific warranty coverage, and we’re happy to walk you through the tradeoffs either way.
